Aircraft manufacturing and services firm Antonov, part of the Ukrainian Defense Industry (Ukroboronprom), has successfully completed the first phase of Ukraine’s AN-26 transport aircraft modernisation programme.
The AN-26 represents the first in the fleet of 14 aircraft that are for operations in the zone of anti-terrorist actions.
Under the programme, the aircraft enhanced its strength with the portable anti-aircraft missile containers along with capabilities for missiles disorientation.
The solution is developed by Artem SJSH, which is a part of Ukroboronprom, and it can be equipped directly in field conditions in the future.
In addition, the upgrade enhanced its fuselage and necessary electric wiring.
Antonov leader Mykhaylo Gvozdov said: «At present, more than 20 Antonov aircraft, restored with participation of our enterprise, are being operated in Donbas.
«Carrying out a task of the president of Ukraine, we will also work out the issues of production of unmanned and battle aircraft.»
Works under this programme were performed at the company’s expense, Antonov stated.
Antonov has repaired and delivered more than 20 An aircraft to Ukraine so far.
Recently, Antonov signed an agreement on participation in designing and construction of an aviation plant in Saudi Arabia.
The plant will feature modern equipment, implementing the newest aviation technologies.
